How Dirty Santa works

  1. 1Bring one wrapped giftEveryone playing brings one gift, around the budget.
  2. 2Get your numberThe host draws a turn order. You'll see your number on your phone.
  3. 3Open or stealOn your turn, open a new gift or steal one that's already been opened.
  4. 4Stolen from? Go againIf your gift is stolen, you immediately open a new one or steal someone else's.

Good to know

  • A gift freezes after a few steals (3 by default) and can't be stolen again.
  • No stealing straight back the gift that was just taken from you.
  • Player #1 usually gets a final swap at the end, since they never got to steal.
  • Also called White Elephant or Yankee Swap. 🐘

For the host

  • Your phone runs the game. Tap Opened one or Stole one each turn; there's an Undo for mistakes.
  • Kids in the households can play, and so can guests without the app: add them by name. Share the watch link so everyone can follow along.
